President Paul Biya Consults From Switzerland

Several dignitaries of his regime, who had been received by different waves by the head of state since his Swiss stay, would have discussed with him the current issues related to the immediate future of Cameroon, such as the settlement of the Anglophone crisis, the probability of a ministerial reshuffle, and possibly the issue of succession at the head of the state.

The information is not official. However, according to some sources authorized within the seraglio, the Head of State is not at all rest during his Swiss stay, where he carefully examines the current issues related to the future of the country. In this wake, he would have received some dignitaries, discreetly selected and invited in Switzerland. According to our sources, it was in successive waves that these dignitaries moved to the Swiss capital lately, and it was individually that they would have held one-on-one talks with the head of state.

Among them, officials and confidants, such as Jean Nkueté - the general secretary of the CPDM Central Committee, the Sultan King of the Bamoun - His Majesty Ibrahim Mbombo Njoya - senator and personality generally listened to by the Prince whenever Cameroon Michel Meva'a Meboutou - the secretary general of the Senate, also presented as a close relation to the president, chief Endeley Mukete - patriarch emblematic venerated Bakwere and Anglophones in general. Behind the scenes are passages of some other personalities in this ball of dignitaries at the hotel of the Head of State lately in Switzerland.

This is the case of former minister Edouard Akame Mfoumou whose passage to the Ministry of Finance in the years 1995 is cited as a reference, and which is still presented as a close friend of Paul Biya despite his exit from the government there more than 20 years; of Remy Ze Meka - the other elite of the South who is said to be very close to the presidential circle of late, or of Jean Baptiste Béléoken - former head of protocol under Ahidjo and who also worked with Paul Biya as Minister of Domains and of land affairs in the years 2008. Difficult to be exhaustive on the number of these personalities who have been seen in Geneva around the hotel of the head of state lately.

Even if nothing has filtered from these talks. But as is usual, observers in the perfume of these "consultations", imagine that they will have, in all likelihood, focused on topical subjects in Cameroon. In the right place, the resolution of the anglophone crisis for which, obviously, the head of state would have wanted the opinions of these dignitaries. It is recalled that during one of his last media outings on the subject, Minister Issa Tchiroma Bakary of Communication and spokesman of the government, hinted that the head of state was working to resolve this crisis , in spite of the holiday accusations that some people thought to detect in his Swiss stay.

It is a safe bet that the head of state, announced in the country last weekend, comes back with concrete solutions to ward off permanently this crisis which continues to jeopardize the living together that he has to stop advocating in Cameroon. According to our sources, these "consultations" on the way out of the crisis should continue after returning to the fold, with presidential agenda discussions with the presidents of the Senate and the National Assembly. Prejudging some steps to be taken to resolve this crisis, some analysts still mention the high probability of a cabinet reshuffle.

Main issues of this change of the government team, bringing some nationals of the English-speaking regions to some ministerial so-called sovereignty positions, to respond to complaints about their underrepresentation in the government structure. But above all, finding new elites close to the people and especially the foultitude of young people who expressed their anger on the streets of the cities of the two regions on September 22 and October 1, 2017. New politicians who will be charged among others to animate the serene national dialogue that the Head of State, as well as certain international institutions, call as a solution to this crisis in the two English-speaking regions.

However, some enlightened analysts point out, this expected ministerial reshuffle would not only curb the so-called anglophone crisis. It is now seen as a response to the socio-politico-economic situation, marked by the austerity and the tension of the social climate. President Paul Biya Consults From Switzerland
